The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meets today at Lenexa City Hall @ 5:30pm

The September Parks & Recreation Advisory Board agenda is noticeably better. This month, residents can see more clearly what the board will actually discuss. The agenda specifically lists an Outdoor Pool Season Recap, along with tree and bench adoption requests.

When agendas rely mostly on broad labels like “staff report” or “director report,” residents have very little idea what topics may come up. Naming the subject with better descriptives gives the public a better chance to understand the meeting, decide whether to attend, and follow what happened afterward.

There is still room to improve. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is supposed to provide feedback on parks, facilities, programs and future needs. It would be good to see more clearly listed discussion items tied to planning, capital projects, programming and recommendations. For example, how does the Outdoor Pool Season Recap connect to the City’s broader parks goals and long-term vision?

Still, this agenda is a step forward. Clearer agendas make public meetings easier to follow and create a better record of what the board planned to discuss. We have been asking for agendas that tell residents more before the meeting starts. This one does that and it deserves credit.
