The Lenexa Arts Council meets tonight, June 16th @ 6pm but based on the agenda, it would be difficult for residents to know what business is actually being conducted.

The agenda lists topics such as Public Art, Justice Center, Ad Astra, Outdoor Concerts, Orchestra, City Center Live, Theater, Literary Arts, Gallery, Manhattan Short Film Festival, and Sponsorships/Grants… but that’s about all the public gets.

There are no staff reports, project descriptions, funding amounts, or explanations of what decisions are being considered. For example, what public art project is being discussed at the Justice Center? What is “Ad Astra”.. the pool or something else?Are sponsorships or grants being awarded, and if so, to whom and for how much? Are any new programs being proposed? Are there budget implications?

Residents shouldn’t have to attend a meeting just to find out what the agenda means. A public agenda should provide enough information for citizens to understand what government business is being conducted before the meeting starts.

Question for the City: Why not include brief descriptions, supporting documents, or staff reports so residents can understand what is being discussed before the meeting begins?
