The Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 25 has been canceled, but the Governing Body will still meet that afternoon for a mid-year retreat from 3:00–6:30 p.m. at the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center. The retreat is for informational and discussion purposes only, no formal action will be taken, and the public is welcome to attend because this is an open meeting of the Governing Body.⁣

What stood out the most was how this retreat was communicated compared to previous council activities outside of regular meetings.⁣
⁣
Last summer, the Habitat for Humanity project tour involving city staff and members of the Governing Body was announced near the bottom of a regular City Council agenda email. If you didn’t read almost the entire email, it was easy to miss.⁣

This time, the city sent a notice with a clear heading, date, time, location, who will be attending, and an explanation of the meeting…⁣

We’ve criticized Lenexa when public notices have been difficult to find, so it’s only fair to point out when the city does it better.⁣

This is a much better way to communicate Governing Body gatherings. More of this, please.
