When this series started, I asked a simple question: Could you identify every Community Improvement District in Lenexa?

Most of us couldn’t. Not because the information isn’t public, but because it’s scattered across ordinances, development agreements, budget documents, legal notices, agenda packets and years of City Council meetings. Finding a clear answer often means knowing exactly what to search for and then searching in several different places.

Throughout this series, we’ve looked at what CIDs and TIFs are, where Lenexa uses them, how they affect what we pay and how the city’s use compares with surrounding communities. We’ve also asked whether information that is technically public is truly transparent if the average resident has difficulty finding or understanding it.

That question helped shape the new Is YOUR Park Next? website.

The website will be a permanent home for the Lenexa CID Tracker, where residents can find active CID districts in one place, along with maps, approval and expiration dates, ordinances, budget information and links to the original public documents. The tracker will continue to grow as historical districts, other incentive programs and additional project details are added.

It will also provide an easier way to find previous posts without scrolling through months of social media, as well as the city budget spreadsheets and supporting data we’ve used in our analysis. The goal is to preserve the information, show the sources and make it easier for residents to explore the numbers for themselves.

Public information shouldn’t just be available somewhere. It should be easy to find and use.
